Shilpa has completed her B. Tech. in Computer Science from Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, NMIMS university of SVKM, Mumbai. She is currently working for Infosys Technologies[2].

In October 2012, Shilpa replaced Urvashi Rautela, the original winner of I Am She 2012. She was earlier slated to compete at the Miss Globe International 2013 pageant. But she was upgraded as Urvashi did not conform to the minimum age criteria as required under the I am She pageant as well as the Miss Universe pageant. The press release sent by the organization stated the following:

We would like to announce Urvashi Rautela’s relinquishment of her title “I am She – Miss Universe India 2012″ to Shilpa Singh, who was crowned “I am She – Miss Globe International 2012″. Shilpa Singh represented India at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant in Las Vegas. The aforestated relinquishment is due to Urvashi’s contradicting contracts as the winner and titleholder of the pageant “Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International”, a fact which she unfortunately overlooked during her participation on I am She 2012.[3]

At the pageant, Shilpa Singh was selected among the Top 16 contestants but could not make it to the Top 10. As per reports [4] Shilpa Singh had performed extremely well at the welcome and preliminary rounds of Miss Universe 2012 at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas. Shilpa's placement ended India's four years' pageant drought which began after Puja Gupta placed in 2007.
